At Amethyst Yoga there are
two styles of yoga
Flow and Forrest
These are focused on the connection between the breath whilst holding postures or moving through the flow of postures. The focus on the breath helps ease these postures allowing stretch and finally relaxation.
Yoga will help you with:
Increased flexibility
Increased muscle strength and tone
Improved respiration, energy and vitality
Lowering stress levels and quieting the mind
Creates wellbeing in a group
Cardio and circulatory health
Flow
A flowing sequence of specific poses that coordinates with the movement of the breath.
A class to bring movement, breath work and energy, to rebalance, and strengthen. All levels can take this class
Forrest Yoga
A modern practice developed by Ana Forrest.
Ana Forrest describes Forrest Yoga: “Forrest Yoga is based in the rich practice of yoga from the east, but applied for the western lifestyle”.
It is founded on four pillars breath, strength, integrity and spirit. It is empowering, strong and playful too.
Camilla Cordle
Camilla founded Amethyst’s Newbury yoga in 2016, when she found herself with a burned-down barn next to her home. Her love of yoga evolved she did her Forrest Training in 2019, a Nidra training in 2020 and a Mentorship programme in 21/22. Camilla is passionate about the mind/body connection and finding freedom in both. Yoga fills her with breath, stretch, balance, healing, fun and community. She is currently in the middle of a Yoga for Cancer training.
Zoe Warren
Zoe has been teaching in London and Hampshire since 2010. Zoe's style is strong and flowing but also allows time to slow down and soak up the effects of ones practice. She hopes that the skills we learn on the mat start to replicate in our every day lives.
Jilan Anwar
Jilan developed an interest in how to use conscious movement as a healing tool in 2012, when she set out on the path to remedy various injuries sustained during her time as a professional double bassist. When Jilan discovered Forrest Yoga, she was instantly captivated by its direct ability to transform lives on and off the yoga mat. Jilan under took the Forrest Foundation course with Ana Forrest and Jose Calarco in Bali August 2019.
Our Story
Camilla founded Amethyst’s Newbury yoga studio in 2016, when she found herself with a burned-down barn next to her home.
A long-time passionate yogi, rather than simply rebuilding the barn as it was, she saw an opportunity. She designed and built Amethyst Yoga on the site of the old barn as a way of sharing her passion and her knowledge of yoga’s benefits.
Camilla found that yoga is at its best when practised in natural surroundings. At Amethyst, those natural surroundings are combined with people-focused, empowering yoga that works for everyone, and every body.
Our Approach
We believe in a practical approach to yoga that welcomes all comers, including absolute beginners.
Our focus is on movement, strength and resilience. We know that with a regular yoga practice, you can achieve more and do more throughout your life.
We believe in the power of connecting body and mind, focusing on our own strength while working as a group to connect with each other as well as ourselves.
We also believe yoga is to be enjoyed, not endured. Our clients feel the benefits of yoga from just one class a week. Those who can commit to two, three or more classes a week find the benefits are life-changing.
Our Studio
Our Yoga room is just ten minutes from central Newbury, within easy reach of London, and a world away from anywhere else.
Amethyst lies deep in the Berkshire countryside, surrounded by fields and woodland. It is a place to reconnect with yourself and your body. A place to move and be outside the everyday. A place to become stronger: physically, mentally and spiritually.
The yoga room is modern with open views. Your place of calm away from the busy world to focus just on you.
